Inundaciones ¿cómo afrontarlas?. Una inundación suele ser la catástrofe natural más común. Puede tener lugar en cualquier lugar y de forma repentina. Sin embargo, no todas las inundaciones son iguales. Algunas pueden formarse poco a poco debido a un período de lluvia prolongado o por un aguacero intenso y de forma repentina.
No importa donde vivas, estar preparado/a para una inundación es importante, especialmente si vives en una zona llana, propensa a sufrir inundaciones, cerca de un río o arroyo… Cualquier arroyo, por muy pequeño que sea, puede desbordarse en algún momento.
Las causas más frecuentes de inundaciones.
- Tormentas tropicales y huracanes.
Este tipo de tormentas suelen venir acompañadas de vientos intensos y descargan una gran cantidad de agua. Pueden ocasionar una subida de la marea en las costas, y lluvias torrenciales, incluso a cientos de kilómetros tierra adentro.
- Deshielo.
El deshielo de nieve puede aumentar el caudal de los arroyos, ríos y lagos, hasta el punto de provocar desbordamientos.
- Lluvias torrenciales.
Los sistemas de eliminación de aguas pluviales por lo general apenas pueden soportar lluvias torrenciales. Algunas ciudades son más propensas que otras, especialmente si se encuentran en zonas bajas, en las faldas de las montañas, rodeadas por ríos, etc.
Este fenómeno meteorológico puede producirse en cualquier momento del año.
- Presas y diques.
Los diques están diseñados para proteger la ciudad contra un nivel determinado de inundaciones. Sin embargo, su operatividad puede disminuir a lo largo del tiempo, siendo su mantenimiento bastante difícil. Además, los diques pueden desbordarse, causando incluso más daño que si no estuvieran.
- Inundaciones repentinas.
Provocadas por lluvias intensas, este tipo de inundaciones son muy dañinas porque son rápidas y suelen anegar zonas bajas en menos de seis horas.
Prepárate para una inundación
- Averigua qué tipos de riesgo de inundación hay en tu zona de residencia.
- Apúntate a cualquier sistema de alerta del lugar donde vivas.
- Si existe riesgo de inundaciones repentinas, procura estar atento/a a las señales que puedan indicar una inundación inminente, como, por ejemplo, que llueva con intensidad.
- Averigua y practica las rutas de evacuación.
- Pregunta por planes de refugio.
- Acumula artículos de emergencia en una mochila por si tuvieras que marcharte precipitadamente o en una despensa por si no puedes salir de tu casa. Recuerda incluir medicamentos y pilas de repuesto Nosotros las compramos en un pack que contiene 48 para ahorrar.
- Contrata una póliza de seguro que incluya inundaciones.
- Guarda los documentos importantes en un contenedor impermeable.
- Protege tu propiedad. Retira elementos que puedan obstruir las conducciones de aguas pluviales. Recapacita sobre comprar una bomba de achique de agua, que funcione con batería.
Prepara tu casa
Si te encuentras en una zona inundable, procura colocar los paneles eléctricos y termos en un lugar alto.
Si fuera posible y necesario, construye barreras para evitar que el agua pueda entrar en tu edificio y sella las paredes en los bajos con elementos impermeables.
Si se ha activado una alerta por inundaciones.
- Ten a mano tu kit o mochila de emergencias y los recursos que guardas en tu casa para subsistir durante una catástrofe.
- Intenta seguir las noticias locales y comunicados emitidos por las autoridades por una radio o televisión. Es mejor que dispongas de una radio que funcione con pilas, por si se produce un apagón eléctrico.
- Llena botellas con agua potable y guarda agua para tu higiene.
- Pon los objetos de valor en las zonas más elevadas de tu casa (estanterías, armarios, etc.).
Añadir a tu mochila de emergencias:
- Alimentos no perecederos para 3 o 5 días. Si no sabes qué almacenar para una emergencia, no te pierdas nuestro artículo: “¿Cuál es la comida de supervivencia que deberías tener ahora mismo para afrontar una emergencia?”.
- Comida para bebés (en caso necesario).
- Pastillas potabilizadoras de agua.
- Suministros sanitarios (como por ejemplo pasta de dientes, jabón, cepillo de dientes, compresas, papel higiénico, etcétera).
- Una mochila de emergencias para tu coche, con comida, linterna, cables, mapas, herramientas, el kit de primeros auxilios, extintor, saco de dormir, etc.
- Botas de goma y zapatos resistentes.
- Guantes impermeables.
- Repelente para mosquitos (ten en cuenta que el agua estancada produce muchos mosquitos y pueden contagiar enfermedades).
Durante una inundación
Inundaciones ¿cómo afrontarlas?. Dependiendo del lugar en el que te encuentres, y del impacto y tiempo de aviso de la inundación, procura acudir o permanecer en un lugar seguro que hayas identificado anteriormente.
Si te piden que evacues la zona, hazlo de forma inmediata.
Sigue las emisiones de noticias locales a través de la radio.
Si estás atrapado/a en un vehículo en aguas bravas, permanece en el interior. Si el nivel del agua sube rápidamente en el interior, sal y refúgiate en el techo.
Prepararse para una evacuación.
Inundaciones ¿cómo afrontarlas?. Es posible que tengas que evacuar la zona. Cuando se activa una alerta por inundaciones deberías comprobar:
- Que tu vehículo tiene el depósito lleno y que dispones de la mochila de emergencias en el coche.
- Si no dispones de un transporte propio, queda con algún vecino o familiar para que puedan desplazarte en el caso de que fuera necesario.
- Si tienes alguna mascota, llévala a algún centro o refugio especial para mascotas.
- Almacena agua en los contenedores que tengas a mano.
- Revisa tus planes y suministros de emergencias. Comprueba que no te falta nada.
- Sigue las noticias locales por la radio y televisión.
- Estate atento a cualquier aviso o comunicado emitido por las autoridades locales.
- Ubícate en una zona segura de la casa. No te encierres en una habitación sin salida en la parte superior de la vivienda.
- Ajusta el termostato del congelador y de la nevera a la temperatura más fría que puedas.
Ante una orden de evacuación.
No hagas nunca caso omiso de una orden de evacuación. Si las autoridades te han pedido que abandones la zona es porque te encuentras en peligro. Sigue sus instrucciones.
- Llévate sólo las cosas imprescindibles.
- Si tienes tiempo, desconecta los fusibles, corta la llave de paso del agua y del gas.
- Sigue las rutas de evacuación y prepárate para afrontar bastante tráfico.
- No intentes cortar camino por arroyos o carreteras inundadas.
- No seguir una orden de evacuación, adentrarse en zonas inundadas o permanecer después de una inundación, podría resultar en sufrir heridas o incluso en la muerte.
- No nades, camines o circules por zonas anegadas. Da la vuelta de inmediato. ¡No te ahogues! Tan solo unos centímetros de agua podrían hacerte caer y verte arrastrado/a por el agua.
- Aléjate de os puentes por los que pase agua de forma rápida.
- Acude a zonas elevadas o a un piso más alto.
Ante una orden de permanecer en tu domicilio.
Para superar esta situación lo mejor posible:
- Reúnete en una habitación segura de tu casa, con tus recursos y mochila de emergencias a mano o cerca de tu almacén de emergencia.
- Estate atento a los avisos emitidos por las autoridades en la televisión y/o radio local.
- Prepárate ante una posible orden de evacuación o, si fuera necesario porque tu casa ha sufrido daños, para marcharte a casa de un vecino.
Después de la emergencia
Sigue las instrucciones de las autoridades. Regresa a casa solo cuando lo indiquen como seguro.
Evita circular, salvo en caso de emergencia.
Es posible que algunos animales hayan entrado en tu casa. Procura llevar guantes y botas durante la limpieza de la vivienda.
Ten presente que podría producirse una electrocución. No toques cables sueltos si están mojados o si estás en el agua. Es mejor que cortes la electricidad para evitar una tragedia.
Evita adentrarte en aguas estancadas. Podrían contener escombros peligrosos y estar contaminadas.
Utiliza generadores solo en el exterior de una casa y lejos de ventanas.
